Lessons

Everyone has to start somewhere and one of the unique things about horseback riding is that it can be enjoyed and started at almost any age. At Skye Stables we cater for both English and Western disciplines for young and old.

Our teaching sessions are tailored to the abilities and desires of the students but typically include the following elements:

• Preparing horse and rider for lesson, tacking up and checking health of horse
• Natural horsemanship groundwork - gaining respect from your horse
• Riding correctly under saddle, maintaining balance and control
• Untacking, grooming and review of lesson

Horseback riding is also an extremely good all round exercise for the rider, especially targeting the calves, thighs and abs. Fitness classes are available and are tailored to your level.

Prices

• 1/2 hour kids pony ride - $35
• 1 hour private lesson - $50
• 1 hour semi-private lesson - $40 per person

Training

We offer training services for your horse in a number of equestrian disciplines but all starting from gaining a foundation of respect between horse and rider through knowledge, patience, consistency and simplicity. Utilizing proven natural horsemanship techniques that transcend English and Western disciplines, our goal is to teach your horse in an effective and straight forward way. Typically training includes the following elements:

• Gaining respect on the ground - yielding, direct and drive
• Suppleness through exercise - lateral and vertical flexion
• Riding on a loose rein
• Moving off your leg and seat
• Trailer loading

Training can be done at Skye Stables by trucking in or boarding your horse. For local horses, training can also be arranged off the property in a safe location.

Boarding

In order to keep maintain the highest level of care for our horses, a very limited number of boarding slots are available. This is a full service facility and boarding fees include stabling, turnout, blanketing and feeding. Only the highest quality natural products are used to ensure the optimum health and well-being of your horse.
